High School at Home; Emma's Story

We had another productive week. Two weeks of 9th grade down, 34 to go! This week Emma did: Of course we started off the week watching the solar eclipse. We had 93% coverage here, and it was amazing to be able to see. We struggled getting any good photos of the actual eclipse because our cameras just weren't advanced enough to, but we viewed the entire eclipse start to finish. My favorite part was how DARK it got at 1:30 in the afternoon, even though the sun was still shining. Experiencing this phenomenon was pretty much our school day for Monday, and unlike half the country, all we had to do was walk out our front door to watch. We finished through lesson 6 in Ancient History. We finally were able to put Streams of Civilization textbook on the shelf for the next couple of months, and begin in her living books. We ended up not going on our vacation, so this week was Emma's first full week of high school. We had a great week! Not only did we have a productive school week, I also felt good and got many extra things done, and Emma's back has healed and she was able to return to gymnastics. Picking up where we left off schoolwise,  this week we accomplished: BF History and Literature: Chapter 2 and the beginning of chapter 3 in, "Streams of Civilization". We learned about the Sumerians and Mesopotamia, Old Egypt, Middle Egypt, and began New Egypt. Writing: we did six lessons, and Emma has begun her first essay for this year. Algebra: She completed seven lessons, but began struggling with distribution, so we slowed it down and did extra practice and only one lesson a day for the second half of the week.
